EQUINE INFLUENZA INNOCULATIONS

ALL RIDERS AND HORSE OWNERS PLEASE NOTE: – THIS IS NOT A NEW RULE BUT HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE OCTOBER 2008

With many away shows coming up – please plan your vaccinations accordingly so you are not in contravention of this ruling.

EQUINE INFLUENZA VACCINATION
From 1 October 2008 onwards, influenza vaccination for all horses competing in recognized Competitions require a vaccination within six months +21 days of the competition.

1. All horses intending to participate in recognised competition must have at least received an initial primary course of two vaccinations, given between 21 and 92 days apart.

Thereafter, a third dose (referred to as the first booster) must be given within 6 months+21 days after the date of administration of the second primary dose, with at least annual boosters given subsequently (i.e. within 365 days of the last dose).

2. If the horse is scheduled to take part in a recognised competition, the last booster must have been given within the 6 calendar months +21 days of arrival at the event. (The 21 day window has been provided to enable vaccination requirements to fit in with the competition schedule).

3. No vaccination shall be given within 7 days of the day of arrival at the event.

4. All horses that were certified as correctly vaccinated under the previous equine influenza vaccination rule prior to 1st October 2008 do not need to start a primary course again provided that they have complied with the previous rule of primary course and annual revaccinations and the new rule of a booster vaccination within 6 calendar months +21 days of the day of arrival at the FEI event.

The Show Jumping arena will have to wait if a Rider is busy doing their Dressage Test

Attached please find your riding times for dressage on Saturday as well as your bridle numbers

Please note the following:

1)      Please check the notice board for any scratching and be ready to ride before your time if need be
2)      The classes will start at the designated times.
3)      Rider’s briefing will be in the CLUBHOUSE at 12pm and 2.30pm
4)    WE WILL BE SHOWJUMPING THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ON SATURDAY FROM 11.15AM SHARP

· CLASS 12 ADULT EV70

· CLASS 7 PR EV80

5)      Show Jumping for classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 will take place on Sunday after the Eventing phase.
6)      Course plans will be mailed and put on the WP Eventing site tomorrow (Wednesday)
7)      Please use the parking at the back of the stalls first and then the area behind the clubhouse
8)      NO HORSE BOX PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN FRONT OF THE STALLS

riders must contact Lisa Hindmarch 082 970 5713 or Gordon Hindmarch 082 415 4906 for their bedding requirements. SDRC will not provide bedding

GRAHAM WINN CLINIC

WP Eventing was delighted to host Graham Winn for the day on Sunday 13 May 2012. The focus of the trip was the TID riders, Kelly Searle and Jessica Foster, but other riders were able to participate, provided they were competing at Ev100 or higher. Graham also agreed to take a group of our Pony Riders, although they are only Ev90, as they leave for their Championships in six weeks.

As always, Graham ran a fantastic clinic! He is clear, knowledgeable and so well respected by all eventers. There were specific flatwork exercises for event horses to make them more supple and athletic. Jumping lines that challenged riders to allow their horses to think for themselves and travel forward on a rhythm… shortening and lengthening gymnastics that got our riders thinking, as much as their horses! And the spectators could see everything and hear everything! The weather played ball until the final session, where our Ev100 Juniors narrowly missed the downpour that followed!

Sincere thanks to the following people who made this clinic possible:

Graham and Michelle Winn, Constantia Valley Riding Club – especially Lexi Chait, Warren Seton and the CVRC Ground Staff, Kim and Jason Wallace – for fetching Graham from the airport and helping Kelly Searle transport her horse, all the riders who participated, Merri Spratley and finally, Priscilla Young – NTC Development officer for Eventing – who made sure this clinic happened! Many thanks and gratitude to this ‘behind the scenes’ group! The next one is in the planning stages!
